Website Crawlability Issues

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Craw ability issues can play a vital factor in optimization. For example you have a javascript drop down menu, and all your high authority links are pointing into your home page. If this is the case and your inner pages don’t have no links going to them from your home page, or other websites then the page rank will be very low if you even have any of course. You want to make sure that your site structure can be crawled efficiently. I would never suggest using a javascript drop down menu for navigational purposes or a html select drop down menu.

Establishing a Money Making Website with Brand Awareness

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

I was just driving down the road a minute ago, and was thinking about how a lot of website well I’d say 80 percent of websites on the internet such as blogs, or just someone trying to start a online business. I see all the areas they fail in which I’m not a goddess to say how people should run there websites, but I do know what it takes to get one going and making money, I mean a lot of money. The problem is people assume to think there going to put a website up and make money and thats the wrong way of thinking of it, I mean yes its ok to think how your going to make money, but right there a lot of people don’t see the whole concept of “how” it should actually be done.

Buying Old Domains Names - Are They Worth it?

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

A lot of people don’t even realize the power of buying old domains, and using them. Which I don’t really bring this up to much, but buying them just has extremely positive effects. For example you buy an old domain that has just been setting around and it has been established since 1999, and you do a 301 redirect from that domain to yours. The impact that it will have on your website will be extremely postitive not only do you get the trust that the domain carried, but you get the value of the inbound links. When purchasing an old domain make sure that *it is* totally relevant to your, so don’t go out purchasing a real estate domain when your in the web design business.

Measuring Price for a Website

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Measuring price for a website can be difficult at times depending on your experience. As you get more experienced you will learn to price websites much better such as custom programming jobs and etc. I think custom application and web development can be the hardest projects to price, well I did at first. The reason I say that for is because of the complexities that are involved its just not a out of the box software where your going to install it and then move on, it just don’t quite work like that. When producing a customized application you must set down and identify everything, work the bugs out, test the software over and over, and there is just so many numerous factors that are involved.

The Headache of a 301 redirect

Monday, September 17th, 2007

To let every one know how big of a headache a 301 redirect is my rankings completely disappeared over a month ago, we did a 301 from http://www.indianawebsitedesign.net to http://www.dewittsmedia.com and things are just now starting to come back I notice several of our competitive keywords are on page 3 and slightly moving up, but I’m thinking it could be another month if not longer for things to “completely” level out. This is something every one should be aware of, and to be caution when doing one and don’t get stressed out because it does take time for them to sort out you could have a very high traffic getting website, but as soon as that 301 redirect kicks in you will lose pratically all of if for awhile.

Article Promotion a waste of time?

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

You know I hear some people say that article promotion is a waste of time I don’t think it is, but then again sometimes it can feel like it is. If I was you I would do it, which I don’t focus too much on article promotion anymore just mainly blog writing and valuable hook able content on my website. The thing is with articles they might not generate large leads right away, but if you keep promoting them very heavily your name will spread through out other sites.

About Us and About U section on websites

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

You know I’m setting here getting ready to write our about us section up on our website which i thought would been up by now, but anyways I was wanting to go over these pages and why I think you should implement them on your website or any one in general. About us pages are very good for several reasons the person that visits your website gets a better idea of who you are, what you look like, and numerous other things.

When your visitors see this type of information they think a little bit differently about you. Kind of hard to explain what I’m trying to state for example you have a nice picture up of you and your dressed nicely and etc the visitor will have an idea of who they are dealing with. You also want to make sure you write up a nice paragraph of your self and where you came from, and if there is any one that works with you or is associated with your website put them up. Believe it or not all this informations helps, you want people to feel more connected to you like they know you better.

When people feel more connected to you they will recommend you more often, or recommend your website to others. One thing I notice is that when we did have our about us page up I got so many e-mails on it just because of the paragraph I wrote up about when I got into trouble for computer hacking and cracking at the age of 15, which I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, but I was quite surprised a lot of people thought highly of it. At first I was thinking maybe i should not put this info up people might think I’m still some kind of hacker which it was nothing bad i did back then just gained access to the schools computers I did no harm to them or anything I just wanted to see if it could be done.

Well just that little sentence and a picture of me up on my site made a lot difference. Just make sure people feel more connected to you when they visit your website you’ll find out it can make a big difference. Specially on blogs if you don’t have a about you section on a blog put one up, what are you waiting for?
