Building a Blog is like Planting a Seed

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Building a blog takes time and most generally you won’t get results right away unless your one hell of a viral king (excuse my language), but most generally in the 1st year or so you won’t see no results specially if your domain is new. What your doing in your beginning stages is seeding your blog just like you would with any company in general.

Problogger did a great post on this called Sometimes Blogging Is Like Watching Grass Grow in this video he explains exactly on what your doing in your first year of building a blog. The thing is most generally in your first year you are researching, promoting, analyzing, and etc. Your basically trying to find your niche and whats working vs whats not working its like a structure your trying to build something that will will fit into a market place.

In other words your building a character, you are developing somebody pratically. Not really like a human being, but almost your trying to get something to move and come alive, but keep in mind it takes time and will not happen over night, so don’t expect to make much money in your first year if any at all try to make sure you have other sources of income coming in to ease things up which granted you can make money in your first year, but if your someone new and starting out don’t expect much right off the bat.

Sometimes I think its great to actually start with no money when building a business the reason being is because you’ll need to educate your self before you actually start to invest money. Learning the hard way can sometimes be beneficial to people instead of having a golden spoon in your mouth because when you build something from scratch and earned your keep you learned how to be responsible and you’ve dedicated your self more then someone that has had money passed down to them, so your what really matters in your blog / company.

When promoting content try to at least promote around 3+ post a day if you can, but keep in mind focus on high quality content and stay persistent because persistence can pay off. As you stay persistence you’ll notice things start to turn and you’ll start figuring out whats working and whats not working. It takes time when it comes down to it.

Its About the Hook - Not the Content

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

hook.jpgGranted content is a plus plus, but quite honestly there is more to it then just posting content you need a way to hook people. I see a lot of blogs talking about this is what you do and etc, but the honest facts are no one is going to share there trade secrets there just posting quality content to get people famaliar with what there doing or maybe give them some tips.

I mean think of it how many times do you go to a blog and they share there in depth secrets it don’t happen. Which granted I’ll be honest I know we don’t I don’t share every single thing, but then again in a way if you have been around my blog for awhile you have probably learned some things cause I have gave out some pretty valuable information, thats for sure.

When starting a blog and trying to get links you need to think virally use things thats going to hook people into your feed such as e-books, free give aways, and etc. Always make sure you promote your bait in areas that people are going to nibble on. You need a market place to promote your bait whether its through adwords, search engines, forums, social networks site such as Digg, Reddit, and etc.

The bait is where its at, which granted content does help and content can be the bait, but generally it gets deeper then that speaking your wanting to increase your feed faster and if this is the case find out how your going to hook people which you can use content to hook people, but you need to tunnel them into your feed some how and this is something you must figure out but as time goes on you’ll find multiple things that work then before you know it you will be replicating it into other things and it will just keep you expanding.

The good thing is when your feed does start to grow you got leverage, so for example once you hit that 1000 mark start leveraging it which you should be leveraging the rss subscribers all the time, but generally at this stage you got more to work with such as leverage for market.

Write Notes - It helps you with Blogging

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

note-pad.jpgHave you ever been somewhere and was thinking man I’m going to blog about this when I get home. I know I have I’ve been at a meeting; with family; at another business / company; and I have gotten these thoughts. Most of the time when I do get these thoughts my mind kind of goes the other direction I’d have to say it never fails (in other words when the time comes I forget what I’m going to blog about), so why not take notes. I think a lot of people are the same way they might think of something and they forgot about it or maybe it sounded more interesting at the time and you changed your mind about it later (detail your notes).

Even if your at your computer try to take notes I know I do I’ll open up notepad or I’ll just start writing on a blank piece of paper thats setting on my desk I think its a great idea and generally I’ll put a little description beside it this way when when I open my blog pad the next day to write I have something to write about it this is always helpful and keeps your blog motivation going.

Take a look below on how keeping notes can help you with your blog development.

  • Builds RSS Feed: Yup of course why wouldn’t it if you take notes it will give your more stuff to blog about which will result in more RSS Subscribers.
  • More Organized Thoughts: Taking notes will help keep your thoughts more organized.
  • Keeps You Motivated: Quite honestly when I’m setting here and I take notes about something I’m going to blog about later on in the night or the next day it keeps me motivated and keeps me going. The reason being is because I already have in mind what I’m going to write about instead of just setting at my computer feeling dumb founded.
  • Link Development: Taking notes can help with your link development process when your writing down your great viral thoughts it can help with your link development which will result in higher search engine rankings.

Taking notes can come helpful in a lot of of ways, but the main idea of taking notes of course it to just keep you going which granted some people are better at holding thoughts or creating new thoughts, so I’m not saying you have to take notes its just a tip, but I do know it helps me when I take notes. I’ll even record urls at times maybe 10-15 of them and then research them later on and write about them, so give it some thought.

Building a Successful Blog

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Building a blog takes time, and encouragement. Well I wouldn’t say encouragement, but it takes someone that has dedication and motivation. And I’ll admit this is something I need to do more often well here lately I have been kind of slacking I generally work 12-14 hours per day 7 days a week and I’m not kidding, but I have been not making my blog post here lately and only have been putting in around 8 hours a day 7 days a week which is pretty low and not to my standard, yea I know it sounds odd.

The purpose of running a blog is to build a community up of course and possibly leverage it into other things such as sales, so in other words you can advertise your products directly from your website; run affiliates through your website; or advertise your services there several different things you can do with them to generate cash flow.

Some people just blog to blog and don’t care about the money and most generally these people are more on the success side I wouldn’t tee totally say these type of people are on the success side, but what I could say is if there staying focus on building there RSS feed up and posting viral content then I would have to say success is rolling in for these people. It takes someone that can create ideas ever day and always thinking of new stuff to blog about. I mean if you can’t think of what to blog about then what will you blog about.

So one way or another you must always keep somewhat an innovative mind set I guess you could say which it don’t hurt to write about the same post, but try to detail them out or improve old post for example you wrote a post called 25 ways to build a better blog well lets say you write a similar post, but with a renamed title or you just switch it around a little bit well in this post try to detail it out or improve it maybe people liked your last similar post, but they would like to see a more detailed in depth post.

Conclusion
We all know there is several ways of building a better blog, but just keep in mind the idea is to create viral content and always think of new stuff to blog about and change things around. Also pay attention to what you get the most comments on and whats attracting the most links if you write post that are attracting a lot of links and attention try to re-frame your self in the direction and write another similar post.

The Stumble Upon Effect and SEO

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Stumble upon brought me around 236 unique visitors the other day with then one hour to a blog post I wrote called Blog Building 101 which is not considerably a bunch of traffic, but with little pops like this here and there you can leverage these pops into other directions or even try to get more of them which I’m going to discuss below on how you can get more stumbles and how you can leverage these stumbles into different direction such as getting more subscribers to your blog.

How to get more stumble upon traffic

  1. Build a list of friends and get into the community by getting into the community and networking with other people you are leveraging your self such as building relationships with other people, but at the same time as your building your friends list they see what you vote on, so for example you write up a nice piece of link bait material such as 101 ways to have better sex and you vote your own article all your friends will see it and this increases your chance of building a network with that content and gaining links, and every one knows the more links you have the higher your search engines ranking will be.
  2. You can also buy traffic from stumble upon as low as 0.05 cents per visitor and its at set rate and you can set the category this can be another effective way of gaining links if you have wrote an interesting article. The great thing about paying for traffic is that you know your article will get seen because your paying for the traffic.

The idea to getting traffic from Stumble Upon is to create viral content that people will vote. Get into the community build your friends up and then let your content viral out there and be sure to vote on other articles instead of your own. Theres nothing wrong with putting votes on your own content of course, but make sure you offer your friends and the community more then just your own content.

So why is Stumble Upon So Special and How can it Be leveraged?

  1. When generating stumble upon traffic you can create link baits and links = higher search engine rankings. If you take the time out to write up some viral content up that you think people will just love and submit it or even pay for traffic you can catch a lot of links from it which granted it will take some practice to see what works, and what don’t work of course.
  2. Stumble Upon can also be used for branding if leverage right you can get people famaliar with your blog and website in general. Think about it you used Stumble Upon to draw in 10 of thousands of visitors and numerous visitors have linked to you and this has given you more traffic through search engines so all together your getting brand awareness because people are getting more familiar with your blog and etc.
  3. And of course Stumble Upon is great for building networks, friends ships, and communities. With all this put together you can leverage a good brand and great blog if you stay working at it and any one that plays around with social networks or blogs knows the importance of building up friend ship and becoming part of the communities.
  4. You can use Stumble Upon to increase your blog reader ship such as subscribers and etc. You can even use it to increase increase a normal e-mailing list such as a sales list or something if you leverage it right.

Conclusion
There is numerous things you can use Stumble Upon for such as traffic, link baits, and etc like I mentioned above. If your someone trying to create some link bait content go study stumble upon see what people are voting and buy some ads just test, test, and test and see what works best your not going to get any where if you don’t try.

Blog Perception and Personality

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Blog building is something that takes time like we all know of course. One thing I see that a lot of blogs fail at is personality such as a brand, an image, and something that sticks out that makes you different from every one else. You need some type of vibe you can promote through the air that people will like and remember you for, just something you can implement in there head. (more…)

14 Tips on getting more blog subscribers

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Getting subscribers to a blog is something that can take some time, and its not something that is going to happen over night by any means. The only way your going to get a load of subscribers over night is if you do something very innovative, or your are somebody famous other then that you might as well plan on buckling up because its going to take some time which granted it is possible to pop off 100 subscribers with then a few hours of course which I’ve done it my self, but take a look at the tips I listed below on how to get more subscribers now make sure you read it throughly because it might just help.

  1. Feed Visibility
Make sure the visibility of your feed is stuck out where people can see it. I would also recommended putting a signature link into your post at the bottom stating subscribe to me or something similar to that, but just make sure your feed is visible to people.
  2. PPC (Pay Per Click)
I have even talked to people that used pay per click to increase there subscriber list by setting up landing pages and then directing traffic tot hem pages and proving to the people what you have to offer to them. If your someone that has some money to invest this would be a fast way of getting that RSS feed up quick if done properly.
  3. Buy Links
This can be another effective way is by buying a bunch of text links and ranking several keywords then directing all the traffic to your blog, and yes you should use a landing page for this too.
  4. Landing Page Tips
When creating your landing page always make sure you put down who you are, maybe a picture of your self, and how your blog is going to help people, so for an example you are a online marker that has been successful at what you do well list this and tell people how your going t help them, so you can get them to subscribe to your feed.
  5. Blog Personality
Make sure your blog has a personality its of own. Build something that stick out and thats different, something that is unique to your readers. Just something that is structure differently then what every one else has to offer.
  6. Think Quality and Virally when Posting
When your writing always keep in mind to keep that content as high quality as possible because remember your trying to stand out from the crowd, so keep in mind think virally and quality. There is nothing better then reading quality content and thats for sure.
  7. Stay Focused
Stay focused on your particular topic I see a lot of bloggers that get lost in what they was doing like they lost there direction or what there blog was actually made out to be, so if your posting on how to make money online keep it in that direction you don’t want to scare every one off and lose your subscribers.
  8. Signature
If you notice we do this in our signature create a link that will go to a landing page telling someone why they need to subscribe for and what you offer that is different from others like I mentioned earlier on the landing page tips which was number 4.
  9. E-Books
Yes use e-book, promote your blog as an e-book or write an e-book. This works very well and you can offer your e-book as a bribe to get more rss subscribers or you can possibly find a way of getting more subscribers by using your ebook as somewhat bait. One example would be the e-book I wrote up called the SEO Fundamentals Guide I wrote the book and promoted it through social networks and popped my feed off a bit more then what it was around 75 subscribers, but if your someone that has a bunch of subscribers you can dramatically increase more subscribers by promoting e-books just give it a try.
  10. Participate
Participating in related communities is highly important, try to participate in other blogs such as commenting and join other forums and get famaliar with who every one is and get them to know you and make friends with them. Making friends is great who knows you might have a friend that promotes your blog for you for free now imagine having 50 of them promoting your blog through social networks.
  11. Submit To Blog Directories
You know this can help with the linkage going into your site, but its not going to dramatically increase your subscribers or anything. Its just still good to submit to blog directories along with all other used techniques.
  12. Pillar Articles
Pillar articles are something that is educational, something that is like a tutorial guide for your readers. These can help raise your rss feed because people will find your blog helpfu and remember you have to prove to your readers why they should subscribe maybe not telling them why they should subscribe, but by offering the content that will rill them in.
  13. Blog URLS
Try to optimize your blog url which this won’t really get you a bunch of subscribers, but it can lead you into getting subscribers. The reason I say that for is because if your urls are optimized properly then you’ll have better search engine traffic which could result in more subscribers.
  14. Easy To Read
Make sure your blog is easy to read such as the clarity of the text. I have seen many blogs in the pass that have not had much clarity to them.

Conclusion

There is several ways to increase your readership, but the best approach is persistency stay persistent and confident about what your writing.  Be a real motivator and make your self stand out from the rest of the group that is the key to success build your so it has a unique personality and prove to people it will help them by posting quality content if you try hard enough sooner or later all of this will start to make sense.

Join the Communities

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Becoming part of communities is something that everyone should do specially if your wanting to get your blog out there, or trying to get people famaliar with who you are. When becoming part of communities its a lot easier to establish your self and your website such as a community driven website, and building a community can take some time thats for damn sure sometimes it can takes a months if not years to get it going somewhat ok just depends on how much time and effort you put into the website, but any one can do it, put it this way if someone else can do it why can’t you.

So what should you do when your becoming part of a community?

  1. Participate in forums that are related to your niche believe it or not this can be very effective if you leverage the people right. I use to think forums were a waste of time, but if you actually learn how to leverage them they can do some positives things for you I know they sure have for us by far.
  2. Participate in others blogs such as commenting and getting people famaliar with who you are. When people see your comments they check you out I know they sure do me :).
  3. Write on other people blogs if you’d like personally this is not something I do, but a lot of people like to do it. I don’t know I just don’t have the desire to write on other peoples blog even though I have though about it because I could write on some very popular blogs out there.
  4. Brand your self in forums and other places make sure you brand your self as an expert in your field or someone that people need to talk to, or so you at least can get them to subscribe to your feed. Make sure your noticeable on who you are I see people all the time hiding there identity like its a secret make sure people know your name, and who you are and what you do.

Building a community driven website can be a task and thats for sure. It takes a lot of dedication and time. I’ve watched people go from 0 subscribers to 15k in 3 years which I wish I would of started our blog a long time ago because if i did it would of been popping off by now, but things are moving in a positive direction thats for sure. Just make sure you join the communities and your not too stuck up and participate and even bring some search engine traffic that will really help.

What does it take to be a blog publisher?

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Blog publishing is some work, but then again if its something your in love with then you will be on you way to success. Sometimes I get burnt out my self, but generally I keep my self motivated or get motivated one way or another and bring back my positive thoughts. I think there would be a ton of excellent blog publishers out there if they would put more effort into it quite honestly.

Read below on a few tips and suggestions on what it actually takes to be a real blog publisher.

  1. Motivation, this is one of the keys for success to anything if your not a very motivated person then you better become motivated or at least blog about something that makes you motivated.
  2. Passion, People that are very passionate about what they do most generally they do better at blogging or anything in life at general there passionate about, so make sure what you blog about your passionate about it if not then that kind of defeats the purpose for example your not going to blog about how to cook if you don’t like to cook they would be kind of silly.
  3. Time, If your wanting to run a major blog like one with a ton of subscribers and something that will be very well noticed across social networks make sure you are dedicated and have the time to do what you want to do it takes time. Blogging can sometimes take 8-10 hours a day easily just depends on the quality and how much effort you put into it.
  4. Educated, Try to blog about stuff your well educated on. If your not educated that much on that particular subject make sure you do a lot of research before you start writing on that subject, and yes blogs can educate you big time from writing, research, and etc.
  5. Social Networks, Now this is probably something that you’ll learn from just working with a blog in general, but try to focus on things such as Digg, Reddit, and Stumble Upon also forums are great anything that has to do with social networking.
  6. Connection, Make sure you connect with people while your writing, also link out to other blog publishers if they see your linking to them a lot they might link back.
  7. Creativity, Make sure your creative when being a blog publisher such as using images (this is something I need to do more often), or even improving old post. Just be creative with your blog and writing in general it will have a more pleasant effect on your readers.
  8. Open Personality, Be open about who you are and what you do. Don’t worry about what other people think just be your self and blog away.
  9. Videos, If you’d like use videos this really lights things up if you ask me some people like to hear your voice, and see who you are I think a blogger should always be fully open with who they are and what they do because if you ask me thats what blogging is all about in one way.

Conclusion
Just be your self and blog away like I mentioned above. Try to offer educational information that other people don’t offer or I should say offer information that people are craving to read and they will spread it through social networks and before you know it your blog might hit big time media :).

5 Blogging Ideas (or did I run out of Ideas)

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I decided to write this article up because I was thinking of something to blog about, and then boom it hit me I figured I’d write a post up on what to blog about or I should say tips that will help you create ideas. (more…)
