You know today I typed in website design at Google, and I notice they have had some odd changes. I seen sites a few sites jump right up to the top 10 that was never even there, but then there is this other site that has nothing to even do with website design I’m thinking maybe it was an algo leak or something because I’ve seen this happen before which was awhile back, and it eventually this website disappeared, but if you take a look at the screen shot below.
Google Serps Have Changed to Unrelevant Results
Friday, September 28th, 2007Measuring with Google Analytics
Saturday, September 1st, 2007Google analytics is my choice and recommendation to any one. Quite honestly I just think awstats is very inaccurate and more complexed to measure things. It picks everything up as a unique visitors. With Google analytics is eliminates a lot of the other stuff that aw stats don’t and I would have to say its by far more accurate which there is some things to pay attention to when viewing the dashboard. Such as Bounce Rate, Page Views, Unique Visits, Content, and yadi yadi yadi. Anyways take a look at items below and this is generally how I measure websites.
Google Getting Sued
Friday, August 17th, 2007Google is getting sued once again, or I should say getting taken back to court once again over a trade mark issue with American Airlines. Danny Sullivan recently posted on this at Google Sued for Trademark Infringement, whats quite interested I was just viewing the actual court document and if you scroll down you can see American Airlines attorney took actual screen shots of the trademark keywords, so they might actually have a strong case on this. Then again I’m sure Google has some reputable people and great defense on this.
I’m going to look a little bit more into this, it would be nice if they had a video of the actual court hearing which thats probably not going to happen of course.
Google Analytics Reporting Data Down
Monday, July 30th, 2007
Don’t know if you guys know or not, but the Google data reports have been down since Saturday night. I just talked to a Google rep, and he said that it will be up soon. He also mentioned that none of the data would actually be *lost*, so as soon as they get the issue resolved the analytics data will show back up. Then you will know what your traffic was for the days that you have not seen, read more into it by visiting the Google Blog.
Google Analytics vs Awstats (which is more accurate)
Tuesday, July 24th, 2007
Google analytics is by far the best for recording your traffic, and etc. It shows about everything you need, and is very user friendly, and very accurate. Aw stats is very inaccurate on the other hand and I would not suggest using it one bit. Aw stats reads off the wall measurements from 3x as much traffic as what analytics says.
Google Book Search
Thursday, May 17th, 2007Google book search is a very nice search engine to use to find books, I actually never played around with it until today after looking at the article “Google Book Search Becomes More Comprehensive“. I am subscribed to the rss feed, well anyways I search for the book PHP, and got some great results.
I typically read PHP books cause I find them interesting believe it or not, which I am a computer programmer, and search engine marketer, but the thing I notice about Google book search is that it returns very relevant results. Some other great things about it is that you can actually read a text preview, find it at a local library (to buy), or a place online to buy.
I highly recommended Google book search over any other book search. I like to read books every once and awhile. When I was growing up I never really liked to read books, but now I guess I’m just quite different. I was never very school orientated what so ever, anyways check out Google Book (book search), and Google Book Search.
Google Sports New Search Engine Interface Look
Thursday, May 17th, 2007I notice Google has sported a new look on there main site at http://www.google.com, at first I notice it changed, but didn’t pay any attention. I take it they decided to change it because they changed there Google analytics look, and feel. I still like the old basic look, but its probably just because I’m not use to the new look yet, but well see how every talks, and feels about the new interface.
Matt Cutts does a questionnaire on buying text links.
Tuesday, May 15th, 2007Matt Cutts made a post recently about buying text links, and that he was going after text link buyers. Well since that article got so much traffic, and links he decided to do a questionnaire on some things, which you can view it at matt cutts how to report links. I don’t think Matt Cutts is going after all paid links, but he is devaluing link passing power to website that have casino links, adult sites, pharmacy sites, and things to that nature.
So if the website that has them type of outbound links they will lose there outbound link power. Mainly what there looking for is non relevant links, so if you have a site on web design, but you have links coming from adult sites, casino sites, or anything to that nature they won’t count. One thing I quite don’t understand is that all these websites out here like seos that build links, and tell you how they approved search engine rankings nothing is ever said to them, or the ranking wieght is not lost.
Google Analytics Has a New Design (Dewitts Media)
Thursday, May 10th, 2007Google analytics has came out with a new design, I have still been using the classic mode, but I guess this comes to where I’m still getting use to it. I don’t quite like it so much yet, I think I need to get use to it. I’m really relaxed using the old analytics, and I know where everything else is, but I haven’t had much time to play around with the new one.
The design looks great, well I guess I can’t say I don’t quite like it, but I think I’m getting use to it like I stated in my last paragraph. The things I’ve notice about it is that its got a new Custom Dashboard, new design on visitors overview, trend and over time graph, and more.
For any one that don’t know what Google Analytics is, its basically a website traffic meter. The good thing about Google Analytics is that it will show status for adwords, and organic search results. You can also set conversion rate, which granted I haven’t got too much into the adwords cause I’m not a major adwords supporter, but I am a organic search supporter.
I think Google Analytics is by far the best, and has put awstats out, or any other traffic analytics. If you’d like to learn more about the analytics check out Google Analytics. They also have a online blog at Google Analytics Blog
W3C Compliant Html Code and SEO Rankings
Sunday, May 6th, 2007Being w3c compliant and valid html code is a very wide disucssionn across forums, and other parts of the web. Matt Cutts has stated several times that having non valid html, or valid html does not effect your rankings, he cleary has stated that its nice to have good html source of course, but he said if optimizing for seo purposes don’t let this become a major concern, and just worry about that later.
