Directory Links, Are they Worth it?
You know since its been day 3 on our site design something like that. I got to thinking you know I need to let my readers know exactly what they should look for in web directories, and if there actually worth it. Quite honestly web directories are great for the average person and the major link builder. The reason being is because directories can carry some value and plus your link will always be listed therefore as the link ages it carries more value.
The thing I would most importantly look for is if the web directory is charging a yearly fee, or a set fee. Typically when the web directory is charging a set fee its not going to be as well established as what a set yearly fee directory would be. When your paying a yearly fee you know your money is being invested better cause generally when the directory owner is charing a yearly fee because they know what it takes to establish an A-1 Web Directory.
For example take a look at web directories such as BOTW, Yahoo Directory, and Aviva Web Directory which there is tons of good directories out there that charge yearly fees, but these are some of the more established well kept directories, there not a set fee. When the directory owners are charging yearly fee it gives them more credit to promote it better, and plus it keeps all the rift raft links out, so there will be less links in the directory. Generally when i say less links I’m referring to quality links I should say, people that promote and take care of there websites.
Yahoo, ok take a look at yahoo it might have a lot of links, but it has several categories that carry page rank. Yahoo is a very well maintained web directory it might be a cost of $299 a year, but it carries major weight due to the age factor and etc. Now yahoo is not no set fee, the only web directory out there thats actually worth submitting to that is free well I should say not actually worth submitting to, but in other words i should say a web directory that carries value that is free is DMOZ. Dmoz has been around town, and its very old. I remember when I use to use dmoz similar to a search engine back in like 99 and I remember many other did too this was all before the page rank days and things to that nature.
The only down fall is aobut DMOZ is that its so highly editorial that a lot of sites don’t even get accepted and if they do there placed in categories that you probably didn’t pick. Cause the chances are you will not get your link listed on a page like the Internet Page (which I’m using that as an example) if you notice that page is a page rank 7 and of course it carries some juice and trust rank. Also if you noticed there is only 2 outbound links on that page and the dmoz directory dates back to 1999 for some odd reason I’m thinking it was created before that, but anyways that page carries some high value. Your link would never get listed on that page unless you was some authority site or very well connected with other sites on the web things to that nature.
With paid listing thought you generally get what you want. Such as category, featured, additional links, and etc. Taste good thinking about it, but anyways take a look at Aviva Web Directory on the Web Design Categories  now you see how there is a-z? Well check all them categories out they contain page rank in every letter category this is a great thing to do so it keeps the outbound links down per page. Generally when there is more outbound links per page there is less juice going to your website, and this is something were going to do with our web directory is list categories like that, but keep them well promoted so they have a high status.
You know the sad thing about a majority of the web directories out there probably 80 percent of them are not as good as what they claim to be there is a bunch of newer directories that don’t contain much value, which I’m not saying there not worth submitting to or anything to that nature. What I am saying though is that a lot of directory owners don’t promote there web directories and take care of them like they should. So are web directories worth submitting too? Most certainly.
